Buzz in France

Byron ‘Buzz’ Raubenheimer, is a below knee amputee who decided to start snowboarding only a couple of years ago and remarkably is now ranked Number 2 in New Zealand. MakeReady was pleased to help on his quest to represent NZ in the Snowboard World Championship Para X being held in Orcières, France this week. 

Sadly he left before our range of snowboarding jackets was ready, but we don’t see any reason why he can’t just ride in a t-shirt. Keep an eye out on our website over the next few days and we’ll keep you posted on how he’s going.

An update on Buzz. He was placed 9th of the 34 standing contestants who came from 11 different countries. His task was made more difficult by catching a bug (along with 1 or 2 others) the night before the last race day and was up most of the night, with very little sleep! That is not an excuse however as that is the nature of sport.  

His average time was about 6 seconds off 1st place and 2 seconds off 5th place which shows how hotly contested the event was. 10th and backwards were a little way off so the top top 9 are definitely a class apart.  He was the 2nd youngest competitor there and most of the athletes have been competing at this level longer than he has actually been snowboarding. Keep an eye out on Buzz in the future - he will be one to watch!

We’ve just been involved with a little project for the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. They’re putting on some fun concerts specifically for the little ‘uns. All set for 2011?

You probably think it’s a bit pathetic, the things we get excited about. We’ve been working on some fresh stationery and shirts to kick off 2011 with. Not completely revolutionary by any means—more of a subtle refinement of our branding that we’ve been using since 2006. The blue is new though, and we’re loving the introduction of a bit of colour for a change. Those of you who are as pernickety about colour as us are probably wondering why the blue is slightly lighter than the masthead of our website. Inspired by a favourite little app of ours, f.lux, we specifically designed our website to be a little ‘dim’ so it’s easier on the eyes late at night (when we expect to be making most updates since we’re busy with clients all day) and so the site draws less power.

We’re particularly pumped about our new shirts—we couldn’t help but run with three designs. They’re so popular we’re starting to wonder if we ordered enough. Keep your eyes peeled for them around Auckland! And if the wearer is up to anything dodgy, the shirt is obviously stolen.

We also thought we’d take this opportunity to wish everyone the merriest of Xmases and the happiest of New Years. Enjoy your holiday and safe travels. We’ll be back on board on the 10th of Jan, fully decked out in lavish regalia.
