Spot colours (or specials) are inks mixed purposefully to create a specific colour, using the Pantone Matching System. A much wider range of colours is reproduceable with spot colours than using CMYK inks, however each ink adds additional cost. Full colour photographs cannot be printed using this method, however spot colours can be used to supplement four-colour process print jobs, especially where an exact colour match is required in a specific area (eg. a corporate logo).
